Materials for photovoltaics: Inorganic-organic perovskites, silicon and how they relate to each other

We will start with a brief introduction into current state-of-the-art of solar energy technology, that is still based on silicon, achieving however new efficiency records. One of the promising ways to go is the tandem structure with hybrid organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite solar cell on top of silicon solar cell. The talk will focus on few interesting issues investigated recently in these materials: Light-induced instability of hybrid perovskites investigated by sub-bandgap absorption spectroscopy and the role of lead iodide phase residue and also iodine interstitials. In the silicon technology we will focus on hydrogenated silicon surface after industrial wet etching and some new findings in terms of vibration assignment achieved by periodic DFT simulations.
